CARICOM Leaders To Forge Region’s Future In Jamaica.

Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, minister of foreign affairs and foreign trade minister, extended an invitation to members of the Upper House to the 49th meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government. Johnson Smith extended the invitation during what could be the final sitting of the Senate for the current parliamentary term. She also wished lawmakers a Happy CARICOM Day.

CARICOM Meeting Details

The 49th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government will occur in Montego Bay, St James, from July 6 to 8. Jamaica assumed the chairmanship of CARICOM on July 1. Discussions will cover the CARICOM Single Market and Economy, climate change, food and nutrition security, regional security issues, and the situation in Haiti.

The government news agency reported that regional approaches to transportation, education, digitalization, telecommunications, population issues, and education transformation will also be discussed. The meeting's theme is “People, Partnerships, Prosperity: Promoting a Secure and Sustainable Future.” Key outcomes will be presented at a press conference.

CCJ Swearing-In Ceremony

Justice Winston Anderson will be sworn in as the fourth president of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) on Sunday during the meeting. The swearing-in ceremony will include remarks by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness, and Justice Adrian Saunders, outgoing president of the CCJ, along with other officials from the region.
