Businessman Abducted, Released: Western Jamaica Crime Wave Deepens

Gavin Myers, a businessman and aspiring recording artist, was abducted on Tuesday, June 26, 2025, in Darliston, Westmoreland. The incident occurred at Myers' car mart.

Abduction Details

Armed men, posing as prospective car buyers, lured Myers from his business. The men forced him into a vehicle at gunpoint. According to The Jamaica Gleaner, Adrian Frater reported that the kidnappers arrived in a Toyota Crown.

Police Investigation

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Glenford Miller, head of the Area One Police Division, confirmed Myers' release. Miller said the police are investigating reports of a ransom payment. "From all indications, he was actually released by the persons who kidnapped him, and he is back home now, safe," Miller told The Gleaner. He added, "We are also hearing, but we have not confirmed, that some monies were paid over to these persons (kidnappers) for his release."

Release and Ransom

The police investigation revealed that Myers was contacted on Monday by someone posing as a car buyer. They agreed to meet at his business around 7 a.m. Negotiations were reportedly conducted directly between individuals close to Myers and the kidnappers. Police efforts were initially hindered by a lack of information.

Concerns

ACP Miller emphasized the seriousness of the case, especially given the involvement of guns. "We will continue to investigate this matter," he stated. The article notes that Myers is the latest businessman in western Jamaica to be targeted. This references a similar case in March 2020, the kidnapping and murder of Montego Bay businessman Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Li.
